Wild Connections is a science-based conservation nonprofit operating in the Pikes Peak region. We identify and protect wild areas and the critical linking corridors. We focus on reconnecting these areas, restoring wildlife habitat, public agency engagement, and community education. These initiatives allow wildlife to move freely, preserve plant communities, protect watersheds, prepare wildlands for climate change, and ensure the ecological health of our wildlands for generations to come.
Wildlife needs to move freely within a suitably large area: to feed, find shelter, and seek mates, to colonize new areas, to maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations, and to respond to changing conditions, including our changing climate. Plants also need connected areas of suitable habitat in which to propagate. Protecting these “wild connections” ensures species survival and ecological balance.
1. Continue to eliminate barriers to wildlife movement and protect of wild areas
2. Identify areas in need of preservation, particularly those with outstanding biodiversity and ecological value.
3. Develop partnerships for educational events, fostering community engagement to meet these goals.
For over 30 years, we’ve protected Central Colorado’s roadless lands, securing 300,000+ acres and 60 river miles in BLM’s 2024 master plan and expanding roadless areas by 100,000+ acres.
