Spirit Keeper Animal Sanctuary provides lifelong veterinary care, physical and behavioral rehabilitation, and welfare-centered support for special needs, elderly, neglected, and otherwise difficult-to-place animals. Through science-based behavior and welfare practices, community education, internships, and partnerships, we improve the lives of animals while helping prevent neglect, unnecessary relinquishment, and human-animal conflict throughout the Pikes Peak region.
Animals with complex medical, behavioral, or age-related needs are often the most vulnerable to neglect, abandonment, or euthanasia because few organizations can provide the lifelong care they require. We believe every animal deserves the opportunity to experience safety, dignity, good welfare, and a life well lived while helping people build a more compassionate, informed community through education.
To rebuild our veterinary medical fund, strengthen facility safety through fencing and security improvements, expand educational programming, develop additional animal housing, and ensure every animal entrusted to us has the opportunity to experience a safe, enriched, welfare-centered life.
Every day, 30–40 animals at Spirit Keeper require medications or specialized medical care, with 2–4 veterinary visits each month, making veterinary treatment one of our largest ongoing expenses.
“I watched your video and just wanted to thank you again for taking him in. He looked so relaxed. I think it is the happiest he has been in a while. It is people like you that make the world a better place. Merry Christmas, Chris Johnston” — Chris Johnston
