The Pikes Peak Blues Community was founded in 2003 to promote the vitality of the blues and other American roots music by supporting live performance and education in the Pikes Peak region. We sponsor free public summer concerts in city parks and other local blues concerts with paid local and regional musicians. PPBC conducts education and youth outreach programs, including our Blues in the Schools, that teach students music theory, musical techniques, and the history of the blues.
Through live performances and educational classes, PPBC teaches the youth and adults of the Pikes Peak region about the blues, the truly classic American music created by African Americans in the South, which has influenced and formed the basis of so many other musical styles, including jazz, country, rock & roll, rhythm & blues, soul, funk, and hip-hop.
This year, PPBC hopes to expand the number of classrooms and schools where we can present our Blues in the School programs as well as schools and districts beyond District 11 and Harrison District 2 here in the Pikes Peak Region. We also hope to increase the number of free blues concerts around town
Last school year, PPBC conducted Blues in the Schools programs for 16 classes in elementary, middle, and high schools in District 11 and Harrison School District 2.
