Flying Pig Farm

What

At Flying Pig Farm, we cultivate food and community. We welcome schools and community groups to grow connections between people, plants, animals, and the planet. Our 1.5 acre farm is home to a wide variety of plants, fungi, goats, chickens, ducks, bees, pollinators, bats, birds, and more. Our main programs include educational visits, community gardens, composting, a seed library, and Farm and Art Camps.

Why

Skills such as growing food, food preservation, composting, and other agriculture arts foster resilient and thriving communities. People who work and learn outdoors in natural environments experience a sense of connection and purpose, better focus, and less anxiety. Children who actively participate in growing and preparing food are more likely to try and to enjoy healthy fresh food.

Needs

We always have needs for volunteers in the garden, we accept donations of functioning garden tools, and we are seeking a treasurer and someone with legal experience for our board.

Did You Know

Did you know that 93% of kids ages 2-18 do not eat the recommended daily 1-3 servings of vegetables and 60% of kids do not eat their recommended serving of fruit?

“We’re losing this kind of knowledge between generations because we didn’t have this kind of experience in school. It’s amazing. It shows them that it takes work but the reward is worth the effort.” — Parent of Flying Pig Farm High School Intern
