The Mustang Ambassador Program (MAP) teaches life and self-leadership skills to Colorado Springs area youth through equine assisted learning (EAL) with our trained mustangs and dedicated educational professionals. MAP strives to be a “navigational” tool to promote self-awareness, self-confidence and self-direction to the students. The programming goal is to grow the youths’ skills in many areas including responsibility, communication, relationships, problem solving, and resilience. Because horses can have a profound impact on peoples’ mindfulness, MAP has added “Horses for Heroes programming. This equine assisted learning technique is meant to help veterans and first responders reduce stress and enhance emotional balance and resilience.
Our children and adolescents benefit from a safe, positive, supportive, and engaging environment that provides
life-lessons and leadership skills that will help them successfully “navigate” the challenges of growing up. To quote a
student, “we learn things through MAP that we don’t learn at school. Students gain important experience for their
own development and personal growth in addition to horsemanship.

Horses can sense a human heartbeat from 4 feet away. This helps explain why horses’ sensitivity and authenticity help people recognize how their leadership and attitude affects the horses’ response.
“When my family was facing some life challenges, I looked for a riding program for my kids. Learning, Leadership, and Life-lessons is the MAP motto. My kids have come away with a lasting (underline lasting) resiliency from their experiences with MAP and this year I attended as well. A great program for all!” — Mother of MAP students
