CASA of the Pikes Peak Region exists to change the lives of children who have been victims of child abuse or neglect. One of CASA’s programs is called Milton Foster Children’s Fund (MFCF) and this program provides foster youth with resources not offered by other local agencies. These resources include extracurricular activities (like camps and lessons), scholarships, life skills workshops, free clothing, and work experience at The Hanger to help build self-esteem and resiliency.
Imagine having just 15 minutes to pack your things and leave your home. Before you know it, you’re in a car with a stranger leaving your friends, school, and family behind. This traumatic experience is just one of the challenges youth face when they are placed in foster care. CASA’s MFCF helps them find a sense of normalcy through scholarships, extracurricular activities, and free clothing that fits their style.
The goals for Milton Foster Children’s Fund are to recruit 10 new volunteers for the program, fund 80 applicants thought our MFCF financial allocations, serve 250 unique teen shoppers at the Hanger, and serve 200 foster teens through our Teen Programs.
In 2023, the Pikes Peak Region received 18,144 referrals of child abuse or neglect. In a 12-month period, about 800 of these kids need a CASA volunteer.
“Thank you so much for blessing our sweet girl with the gift of swim lessons. She loves the pool but wants to be able to swim without her floaties. Next summer this will help her get there.” — Anonymous Foster Family and 4-Year-old girl
