The Mustang Ambassador Program (MAP) teaches equitation combined with life and self-leadership skills to Colorado Springs area youth through equine assisted learning with our trained mustangs and dedicated educational professionals. MAP strives to promote self-awareness, self-confidence and self-direction to the students. The programming goal is to grow the youths’ skills in many areas including responsibility, communication, relationships, problem solving, and resilience in conjunction with natural horsemanship.
MAP has a goal of connecting our horses to the public to share their beneficial characteristics. A major component of doing so is to reach children and adolescents who are interested in horses. These kids benefit from a safe, positive, supportive, and engaging environment, guided by experienced educators, that will help them successfully navigate the challenges of growing up. Students gain important experience for their own personal growth. To quote a student, “we learn things through MAP that we don’t learn at school.
1. Expand MAP’s youth programing by at least 15% (15+ students) in 2025
2. Increase MAP’s Give! Campaign donation results by at least 10% ($1600)
3. Expand the number of Give! donors by at least 10%
4. Increase website traffic by at least 15% through expanded social media presence
5. Recruit 2 additional boards members and at least 3 additional volunteers
Through the horses and being outdoors, MAP programming combats “nature deficit disorder” which results in diminished use of senses, attention difficulties, and results in higher rates of physical and emotional issues. This is an incremental benefit to the students as they engage in healthy physical and educational activities.
“My daughter has participated in MAP programming for 5 years. Every year I see her grow more and build on the leadership skills she learns. She uses the skills she has leaned at MAP and translates them into her daily life. I highly recommend MAP.” — Sarah, mom of a MAP student
