CASA supports volunteer advocates who speak up for kiddos in in the family court system because of abuse, neglect, or domestic violence. A lot of these kids are in foster care, and the advocates ensure the child’s best interest remains front and center in court and in the community. CASA also operates Milton Foster Children’s Fund (MFCF) – the program that benefits from Give! – to provide foster kids with enrichment and educational opportunities not typically available through other agencies.
Foster kids don’t have the same opportunities as their peers. There’s often not money for ballet classes, swim lessons, or sports camps. There’s not always an adult who teaches them how to fill out a job application, open a bank account, or buy a car. The funds and resources available through CASA’s MFCF program help these kids build the self-esteem and resiliency needed to become healthy and contributing adults.
We hope the next 12 months bring increased joy for kiddos and teens going through hard times. We hope they take life skills classes at CASA, receive funding for educational or resilience-building activities, and shop at The Hanger (CASA’s teen store) for confidence-boosting outfits & accessories!
17,942 calls to the Child Abuse & Neglect Hotline came from the Pikes Peak Region in 2024. It is the highest number in the state of Colorado, and about 800 kids in this region need a CASA each year.
“Last year I didn’t play football because this one foster home couldn’t afford it. I’m very grateful I can play now. I think about CASA being generous to give me a scholarship. Just going on that field, seeing my teammates, seeing my coaches. Living the football dream. Thank you for the scholarship.” — Anonymous teen who received MFCF funding from CASA in 2024
